One of the major problems believers face in their walk with God is the mastery of the art of prayer.
Out of every ten serious Christians only two can boast of mastering the art of prayer. Believers find it hard to maintain prayer fire.
They suffer from varying levels of inconsistency, lack of fervency and ineffective prayers.
It is no news that there are a few Christians who are actually serious about mastering the art of prayer.
Prayers bears great benefits and any believer who fails to master the art of prayer would be a prey in the hands of the devil.
How can you maintain prayer fire?
How can you continually and consistently call upon God in prayers?
What steps must you take to maintain the fire of prayer?
1. Absolute Dependence on The Holy Spirit
"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." – Romans 8:26
As humans, we face the problem of being unable to know what to pray about and how exactly to pray.
But by mercy and grace, God has made a provision to assist us in prayer – The Holy Spirit.
From Romans 8:26 we see that we can be praying but it is the Holy Spirit who actually does the communication. He makes use of our vocal cords in prayers to pray for us as we are supposed to.
In order to maintain the fire of prayer and pray effectively you must depend absolutely on the Holy Spirit and trust Him to help you pray aright.
How do you allow the Holy Spirit to help you pray when you pray?
By praying in tongues.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is evidential in the speaking of other tongues. This new tongue that you receive when you get baptized in the Holy Spirit is the language of the Spirit and when you begin to pray in the Spirit's language you give the Spirit of God permission to make use of your vocal cords to pray.
I hardly pray in English language because I am not only unable to express myself to God in English but because I am afraid of praying the wrong prayers hence I speak in tongues every time I pray.
2. Praying When it is Convenient Or Not
"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;" – Ephesians 6:18
Do not see prayer as a part-time act or a religious activity. Even when it is most convenient or least convenient – Pray!
In looking for a convenient time for praying we end up not praying at all. There would never be a convenient time for prayer if you are waiting for one.
Hence you would need to discipline yourself to pray even when it is least convenient.
3. Mediate On Scriptures
"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." – Joshua 1:8
This is one of the secrets which makes my personal prayer time very exciting. I work so hard to keep my mind on scriptures on prayers and the need to pray.
Hebrews in Chapter 4:12 tells us that the word of God is quick and powerful. When you meditate on the word of God, it has the potency to quciken you to action.
I always meditate on scriptures about prayer and they keep me always wanting to pray. I personally recommend the following scriptures for your study;
➡ Luke 18:1
➡ Ephesians 6:18
➡ Colossians 4:2
➡ Psalms 80:18
➡ Romans 8:26
➡ Romans 12:12
There are more scriptures on prayer but these ones are my personal best and they have immensely blessed me and kept my prayer fire burning.
4. Live a Holy Life.
Founder and Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr Paul Enenche said that "prayers keeps people from sin and sin keeps people from prayers".
If you would maintain the fire of prayer and keep praying you must flee from sin. Nothing extingushes the fire of prayer like like sin does.
Sin is the devil's strategy to keep believers away from a true relationship with God by preventing them from praying and performing other spiritual functions.
Prayer sponsors intimacy with God. The most painful loss is the loss of intimacy with God and even when prayer helps us secure it, sin destroys it.
We must live holy lives if we must maintain the fire of prayer.
The benefits of prayers can never be over-emphasized and you would be doing yourself great harm if you fail to pray.
Engage God today in prayers and see your circumstances turn around for the better.
