Why is it important to dwell in the secret place of the Most High?
This article provides answers to the basic questions about the secret place and the immense benefits one can derive from dwelling in the secret place.
Psalm 91 is one very popular Psalm because it contains the concept of the secret place which is a quintessential embodiment of our Christian Faith.
Verse one of Psalms 91 says "He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty"
This shows us that there is a location called the secret place of the Most High and men can stay there. Not only can men stay in the secret place, the concluding part of the verse shows that there are benefits attached to staying in the secret place of the Most High.
What or where then is the secret place?
The secret place of the Most High is a place where man meets with God to foster and enact intimacy, communion and fellowship. It is a place whose chambers helps men orchestrate a deep relationship with God.
The secret place of the Most High is a place of brokenness, contriteness, consecration and sacrifice where a man condemns his flesh to a diminishing form allowing his spirit man to be conducted through the corridors of heaven for deeper intimacy with the Father.
God is In The Secret Place
It would not be called the secret place of the Most High if God was not present there. In Matthew 6, Jesus began to teach about prayer and He said in verse six (6):
"But thou, when thou prayest; enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, PRAY TO THY FATHER WHICH IS IN SECRET; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly"
You see the emphasis right? "...Pray to the Father which is in secret...". It is important for you to know that even though God is everywhere, He does not meet with people everywhere. There are dedicated meeting points agreed upon by God and man for meeting.
God, your Father, is in the secret place and He expects everyone of His children to dwell there with Him because it is the secret place that allows him to have intimacy and fellowship which He desires whilst helping men see who they are meant to be.
Oh how lovely it would be for believers to dwell in the secret place of the Most High.
The secret place of the Most High is both a physical location and a consciousness. Wait, stay with me.
The Physical Dimension of the Secret Place
The secret place of the Most High can be a physical location. A point having latitude and longitude by that I mean a geographical location.
And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD — Genesis 19:27
We see the patriarch Abraham in the scripture above getting up early in the morning from his tent to a "place" where he stood before the Lord. Indicative of the fact that there was a geographical location where our father, Abraham, dedicated to God as his secret place and point of meeting with the Lord.
The secret place as a physical location can be your bedroom, a mountain, an open field e.t.c as long as it affords you that space and serenity to be alone with God.
The Consciousness Dimension of the Secret Place
The secret place is a spiritual a concept as it is physical. This dimension of the secret place refers to the secret place as a realm, a consciousness which a believer carries about.
It is a point where the believer can be walking among men but he has his head up in Zion. He can be seated with people but is meeting with the council of heaven.
This consciousness was what gave prophet Elijah the boldness with which he stood before the King of Israel without fear nor favour and said "...as the LORD God of Israel liveth, BEFORE WHOM I STAND, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word" — I Kings 17:1
I hope you know that Elijah was standing in front of King Ahab when he made the statement above. How comes he said he was standing before the LORD God?
The location the prophet was talking about was not where he was standing in the physical. It was a spiritual location and he understood that because he was standing there he could stand before any authority on the earth.
Do not go about confronting humans, authorities, systems and powers until you are sure you are standing before the LORD God.
This consciousness dimension of the secret place of the Most High is what my friend, Amb Israel Emmanuel calls the Emmanuel's Dimension that is the "God with Us" dimension. This is an awareness that you carry God everywhere you go.
This dimension allows you have intimacy with God regardless of where you are. You can be at your work place going about your workplace duties and still be communing with your Father.
At this point, you become an envoy of His presence. A carrier and conductor of His possibilities. Hallelujah!
But before you get here, you must have spent time at a physical location with Him. God Himself imparts this consciousness in you by His spirit dwelling in you.
