The secret place of the Most High is a place of fellowship, intimacy and communion with the Father by the help of the Holy Spirit. It is a place where believers initiate bonding with God's Spirit.
It is the place of intercourse. A place where the Divine swallows up humanity and the flesh laid bare before the eternal Spirit.
There is so much one can say about what the secret place is about but it is important to note that there are certain requirements which must be met before anyone can make entry into the secret place.
I mentioned the following as the requirements for entering the secret place.
- Right-Standing or Righteousness
- A Call
- Hunger
- Quickening
Until these requirements are met, entry into the secret place would be hindered. Follow me as I explain these requirements.
1. Right-Standing or Righteousness
The first requirement for entering the secret place is right-standing with God also known as righteousness.
The secret place is a place where God dwells. God detest sin hence anyone who is in sin can never locate the secret place because sin and God can never dwell together.
David asked, Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? (Psalms 24:3). The answer in verse 4 is summarized as a man who is righteous.
A sinner can not have access to the secret place. Sin is one of the major hindrances to the secret place because the holiness of God can not admit sin or a sinner into the secret place.
To enter the secret place, one must rid him/herself of sin. God is ever ready to interact and commune with us but sin poses a hindrance (Isaiah 59:2).
You can only gain entry and enjoy the benefits of the secret place of the Most High when you have exited the nature of sin and began living righteously.
2. A Call
Dwelling in the secret place is a spiritual activity. And it is only possible by partnership with the Spirit of God. Trying to enter the secret place by an act of your will or desire is a venture that would end in utter futility.
What I mean is this, you can not enter into the secret place because you want to or choose to. You can only come into the secret place when the Spirit calls you.
Jesus explains this concept in John 6:44
“No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
No man can come into the place of fellowship by an act of his/her will. Men come into fellowship with God because He(God) by His Spirit calls them.
In the first part of Songs of Solomon chapter one verse four, the Bible says
Draw me, we will run after you...
Men come into the secret place by virtue of a call.
“I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.” – Hosea 11:4
It would be difficult to go into the secret place except God calls and draws you into it.
... Today if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart... – Psalms 95:7-8
The Spirit of God is constantly calling out to your spirit even NOW. Say YES to that call and enter into the secret place.
3. Hunger
One of the test of spiritual healthiness is hunger for God. Hunger is a very good sign spiritually. It signifies that one is alive spiritually.
A man who is hungry for God will readily want to dwell in the secret place. David expressed an undying hunger for God which is very much evident in his book of Psalms.
In Psalms 63, David was in the wilderness. What every normal human would seek in the wilderness is food and water but David sought something else.
“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;” – Psalms 63:1
Hunger for God continually drove David into the secret place. Without hunger for God, the secret place will be an uncomfortable place to dwell.
4. Quickening
Like I said earlier on, dwelling in the secret place is a spiritual function which makes it a daunting task to accomplish in the flesh.
You can not perform a spiritual function effectively unless you are helped by a spirit. In the flesh and by the energy of the flesh we can not conduct ourselves into the secret place. We must be quickened by a spirit to perform a spiritual function.
In Psalms 80:18, the Psalmist prayed thus;
"So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name."
Without quickening, we would not find the secret place conducive for dwelling. A man who would consistently dwell in the secret place would do so by partnering with the Spirit of God. you
It is only spirits that can be consistent. A human can only be consistent when he/she is quickened by a spirit. The Spirit of God will have to get you quickened before you can enter and dwell in the secret place.
Apostle Paul to the Romans;
“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” – Romans 8:11
The secret place is primarily governed by the Spirit of God. He is responsible for quickening you into the secret place and conducting you around it.
