Victory Over The Bondage And Yoke of Sin in Your Christian Life

Sin has remained the devil's foremost strategy for capping the potential of believers. It has been the major setback of believers through out the various dispensation of time. The bondage it beings with itself accounts for the inability of many Christians to come into the fullness of the God-life and enjoy the immense benefits of serving God.

Severally, I have heard of tongue-talking believers who have battled with sin and lost woefully and then they begin to coin doctrines and teachings out of their experiences. These teachings and doctrines claim that it is impossible to live a holy life. They begin to teach that it is rare for a Christian to live without sinning.

Inasmuch as there are tendencies of faltering and falling at one point, a believer is never a sinner. Yes, the righteous may fall seven times but he is not a sinner. No true believer would be comfortable with sin. Do not permit any one to deceive you into believing that it is not possible to live holy. It is very possible and quintessential to live a holy life because "...without holiness, no man shall see the Lord" – Heb 12:14 (Paraphrased)

To join in the euphoria of heaven you must live a holy life. No sinner would make it to heaven. Only holy people would come into the courts of heaven.

But in all of these, it would be grossly unfair of me not to affirm the possiblity of a believer being under the bondage of sin. Whilst we preach and emphasize holiness, we should also be kind enough to look with love in the direction of those who have struggled to come out of sin yet despite their strong-willed decisions and desires backed up with determination they readily fall back to sin.

Have you been struggling with sin? Have you tried to escape the yoke of sin but to no avail?
Then this article was specially written for you.

If all you do is the opposite of what believers should do then I congratulate you because you are reading the solution to your dilenma.

NOTE THIS: It is very possible to live a life that is free from sin. Christ has procured and secured your victory over sin.

In Apostle Paul's epistle to Romans, he spoke about not doing the things he ought to do and doing the things he hated (Romans 7:14). His desire to live a holy life was not enough to make him do so. He struggled to do what he should do but ended up doing the things he shouldn't do.

I am sure this feeling is mutual. You always make up your mind never to indulge in a particular sin but before long you find yourself in the performance of it. Anytime you make a decision not to sin, it seems as if an influence comes upon you, overpowers you and then you readily fall back to sin.

Apostle Paul reveals what goes wrong. He shows us why we fall into sin despite our firm decisions not to in Romans 7:17-20

17  Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin  that dwelleth in me.

18 For I know that in  me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good  thing: for to will is present with me; but  how to perform that which is good I find  not.

19 For the good that I would I do not:  but the evil which I would not, that I do.

20  Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I  that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

You see that you fall into sin easily because the nature of sin dwells in you. But there's goodnews for you. There's a way out. Deliverance from the nature of sin is possible. You can be free from the bondage, yoke and snare of sin. You can maintain your decision to live a holy life free from sin.

In Roman chapter 8 verses 1 and 2, Apostle Paul shows us the way out;

1 There is therefore now no  condemnation to them which are in Christ  Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but  after the Spirit.

2 For the law of the Spirit of  life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from  the law of sin and death.

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is the way out. It is potent enough to deliver you from the law and nature of sin which is responsible for your continual falling into sin. By virtue of the death of Jesus, sin has been condemned and conquered and the righteousness of the law has been fulfilled in us.

The fulfilment of the righteousness in us finds expression when we walk not in the flesh but in the spirit. To be truly free from the bondage of sin, you must walk in the spirit.

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. – Galatians 5:16

The flesh sponsors sin. You are battling with sin because you have not begun to walk in the spirit.

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. – Romans 8:5

People whose minds are focused on spiritual things have no time to dabble into sin. We can not live a life that is free from sin by merely confessing strength and having desires backed up with fierce determination. The surest exit from the captivity of sin is to live by the Spirit, walking daily in His precepts.

See what Romans 8:10-11 and 13 says;

10  And if Christ be in you, the body  is dead  because of sin; but the Spirit is life  because of righteousness.

11 But if the  Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the  dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ  from the dead shall also quicken your  mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in  you.

12 Therefore, brethren, we are  debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the  flesh.

I know your pastor may have explained Romans 8:11 in the light of raising the dead and healing the sick but it is only a part of what that scripture implies. If truly the Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, He will quicken you to lose the ability to sin because the Spirit of God is pure and holy and He would not want to be tabernacled in an unclean place.

Instead of determining not to sin, determine to walk in the Spirit so you do not gratify the desires of sin.

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves  on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy  Ghost – Jude 1:20

Spend time communing and fellowshipping with God's Spirit and you would gradually begin to lose the affinity to sin. The Spirit is the way out. His quickening is what guarantees your freedom from the bondage of sin.

Decide to WALK IN THE SPIRIT!
